NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

PROPOSED TIVERTON TOWN CHARTER AMENDMENT

Notice is hereby given that a Public Hearing will be held on the proposed Town Charter
Amendment. This Public Hearing is scheduled for the Tiverton Town Council meeting to be held on
Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. at the Tiverton Town Hall, 343 Highland Road, Tiverton, RI.
The Town Council will consider a Charter Amendment and corresponding Ballot Question for
possible elector approval at the November 5, 2024, general election. The amendment will provide for a
modification to Article XI SCHOOL DEPARTMENT by adding a new section 1103 which will require
monthly school department financial reports to the Town Administrator and Town Council related to the
annual operating budget, capital budget, and revenues.

The proposed amendment may be altered or further amended prior to the close of the public
hearing without further advertising, as a result of further study, or because of views expressed at the
public hearing. Any alteration or amendment must be presented for comment at the public hearing.
A copy of the proposed Home Rule Charter amendment is available for public examination in the office
of the Town Clerk between the hours of 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays,
from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM on Wednesdays, and from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM on Fridays. The amendments
may also be viewed hereinbelow this notice.
Anyone wishing to be heard on the proposed amendment should be present at the aforementioned date
and time. The Town Hall is handicapped-accessible. Persons requiring assistance should contact the
Office of the Town Clerk at 401-625-6703 at least three business days prior to the hearing date.

RESOLUTION PROPOSING A CHARTER AMENDMENT RELATED TO FINANCIAL

REPORTING OF THE TIVERTON SCHOOL DEPARTMENT

Pursuant to Article XIII, section 9, of the Constitution of the State of Rhode Island and Article
XII, section 1205, of the Tiverton Home Rule Charter, the Tiverton Town Council proposes the
following amendments to the Tiverton Town Charter, to be submitted for approval of the electors
of the Town of Tiverton as Ballot Question No. 1.

Question No 1: Shall the Tiverton Home Rule Charter be amended to require the school
department to submit monthly financial reports to the Town Administrator and Town Council?
The following Article and Section is proposed to be Amended with an additions to Article XI
SCHOOL DEPARTMENT by adding a new section 1103 as follows:

Section 1103: Required Financial Reporting to Town Administrator and Town Council
The Tiverton School Department shall submit monthly financial reports to the town administrator
and town council related to the annual operating budget and capital budget of the department.
The financial reports shall include, by budget category, all actual expenses and expenditures, and
all revenues received, from any source, related to the operation of the Department. By
ordinance, the Town Council, may require any other additional information necessary to
implement the intent and purpose of this section.
